About Me
Laura Zizek
Hi! My name is Laura and I have always been a creative person, except that one time as a child when I named my stuffed polar bear, poley, but not everything can be a success. I love creating, whether that’s embroidery, trying to make my own clothes, baking and making stop motion videos.
The first stop motion video I ever made was in 2010, it was summer break and I was bored. The animation was simple. I went out into the backyard, found some white rocks, used the grass as my background and made the rocks spell out ‘hello’ and then they transformed into a squiggly line.
A little later that summer I made another stop motion video, again outside, but this time using sand on a beach and my flip flops. This time I played with narrative…played with narrative is a bit of a stretch, in reality it was a happy face that gets walked on by a pair of flip flops and cries (the tears were rocks!).
I still don’t know why I made these two videos that summer. I think I was mostly bored and I always loved taking pictures, so I tried something different.
From then on, I would make stop motion videos every now and then. But in 2018 I started sharing them on my Instagram and I started making them more regularly. I made short animations of the books I read that month because it was a fun way to show what I had been reading and it was a creative exercise to try and make something different each month.
Then I started to branch out and make non-book related videos, from me twirling on a typewriter, to animating fonts to showcase what movies I enjoyed watching, to making my best friends save the date video for her wedding.
I have been able to teach myself stop motion animation and I would love to collaborate with you.
